Clearwire COO Erik Prusch indicated that the company will eventually transition from WiMAX to LTE (Long Term Evolution). There is no specific timeline for the transition plus the plans aren't 100% definite and Prusch also said "WiMax to date has been a very good technology choice for us." and "We were able to take advantage of the speed to market before LTE was even a glimmer in anyone's eye. But we recognize the ecosystem in the U.S. will be larger for LTE than WiMax, so we are conscious of that. We don't believe that customers buy a technology. They buy fast and reliable access to a data network." After Verizon's 4G LTE launch they plan to wait for the LTE network to mature before finally committing on switching technologies.

According to Gadgetsteria, Verizon's 4G LTE network was once again having some issues this weekend. The issues may be an after effect of the Nationwide LTE outage that occurred on 4/27. Several tips have been floating around the Internet indicating that no matter what users do, they can't get the 4G icon to light up on their phone. Users in areas where 4G has come back online are reporting faster speeds while others are reporting inconsistent download/upload speeds. It looks like Verizon hasn't learned all their lessons from the last outage, so if LTE isn't working for you currently it should hopefully be up soon! Cradlepoint’s latest addition to their lineup, the MBR1400 Mission-Critical Broadband Router, launched earlier this year. So why hasn’t 3Gstore/evdoinfo.com been selling the MBR1400 or published a review like we usually do with new routers? At launch, the MBR1400 had a lot of problems – bugs that Cradlepoint confirmed and quickly got to work on fixing. We made the decision to hold off on selling and recommending the MBR1400 until all of the problems we found were 100% solved (if a product doesn’t work as it’s supposed to, we simply aren’t comfortable selling it to our valued customers!). After several weeks of revisions by the team at Cradlepoint, we are happy to report that the latest firmware revision (version 3.2.2) has successfully eliminated all of the problems we were seeing. We’ve been testing and re-testing the MBR1400 running firmware version 3.2.2 for over a week now and are thrilled to see the router performing up to its amazing potential!

Verizon Wireless executive director of LTE spoke today at the Ericsson's Business Innovation Forum in Silicon Valley, where they got several questions about Verizon's big LTE network outage that occurred in April. This 24 hour outage left hundreds of thousands of customers unable to access 4G LTE and even their older 3G EVDO network. Higgins wouldn't give any specific details on what caused the outage, but he did say that the issue was fixed and they've taken steps to ensure it won't happen again. Higgins also said "We’re going to make some adjustments, and some of those adjustments have already been made…It was an important issue. We worked through them. Our vendors were very responsive.” Ericsson's North America VP of strategy and market development Arun Bhikshesvaran mentioned this problem wasn't related to Ericsson directly. They supply the radio access network and elements of the evolved packet core for Verizon's LTE deployment, but because this effected everyone, rather than a single market, the problem was probably further up in the network.
