On Sunday, September 18th AT&T officially launched their 4G LTE service in San Antonio, TX providing faster data access for customers. Their LTE service is designed to offer customers a service that is 4 times faster than their current 3G HSPA+ network, which should yield speeds comparable to Verizon's 4G LTE network. Verizon 4G is currently available in 143 markets, while AT&T's initial LTE launch only includes 5 markets currently. The area in dark blue represents their new 4G LTE network in the picture above. San Antonio was the original headquarters of AT&T mobility and due to a dense metropolitan area this will be a true test to see if their service can handle consumer demands.
