As was reported earlier this summer, Sprint has confirmed that they are working on implementing their WiMAX network in Los Angeles, although they have not given an official date that the service will launch. Some Los Angeles users of the Sprint 3G/4G EVO phone also noticed that they were able to see the 4G network on their phone last month (but they weren't able to connect to it).
We have a staff member living in Los Angeles, so we decided to put these rumors to the test and see if we could find 4G in Los Angeles. We tested a CLEAR USB modem (remember, Sprint and CLEAR use the same WiMAX network), and lo and behold it did indeed detect the WiMAX network and connected! Signal wasn't great (our tester was only able to get two out of four signal bars maximum) and speeds weren't nearly as impressive as we've seen in cities that have officially launched the service, but Sprint and CLEAR are obviously working on launching service in the area!
