Clearwire Conducting LTE Trials Demonstrating Multi-Mode Capability

As WiMAX availability continues to increase, Clearwire is now planning to conduct LTE trials which they hope to bring 20 to 70Mbps. While Verizon's LTE slated for November 15th will operate on the 700Mhz frequency, Clearwire plans on operating within the 2.5-2.6Ghz frequency. John Saw, Clearwire's chief technology officer, said “Clearwire's unmatched spectrum and all-IP network make us the only service provider in the U.S. able to conduct tests of this nature and on this scale."

They'll be pairing up with Huawei Technologies, which have had success building the infrastructure of the worlds first LTE network in Europe. As they do these trials, they'll be working closely with 4G semiconductor supplier Beceem, to determine the effectiveness of a multi mode LTE/WiMAX network. Unlike Verizon's 700Mhz LTE, Clearwire's deployments in the 2.5Ghz frequency band is a universal standard. This could help ensure that these future devices would be fully compatible throughout the entire world.
