Right on the heels of the announcement of Clear coverage in Atlanta comes more news indicating that Clearwire is indeed moving ahead at full steam with their plans to provide WiMAX service to many more customers in the near future. It was announced today that Clearwire has selected Cisco to provide the core IP network infrastructure. As part of the deal, Cisco will be creating new Clear-compatible WiMAX devices (modems, etc) and also plans to work on 4G products with Linksys.

In a statement Scott Richardson, chief strategy officer of Clearwire, said:
"By teaming with Cisco, one of the world's most forward-looking IP network infrastructure providers, we're building a robust and cost-efficient next-generation network that's designed specifically for delivering rich broadband services. In addition, Cisco plans to develop WiMAX technology for end-user devices, which will give consumers and businesses more compelling ways to stay connected through our CLEAR 4G service."
It will be interesting to see what sort of end-user devices Cisco creates for Clearwire users aside from traditional aircards or embedded modules. What would you like to see from Cisco's 4G consumer device line? Discuss it on the 4G Forums!
