Sprint XOHM coverage has been confirmed in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and 4Ginfo has now run speed, ping, and traceroute tests to see how service there measures up to what we found in Chicago last week.
While the results of the Chicago tests with both the Home Modem and the SWC-e100 impressed us, the service in Dallas seems to be a ways behind the network built in Chicago. The range was wider than expected - for those familiar with the area, it extended far north of the downtown area, north of LBJ/635 - but it was definitely not stable. We were not able to stay connected for more than 10 minutes at a time. We used the SWC-e100 ExpressCard to test the area.
Here is the initial speed test - and even though Sprint identified the network as "Sprint PCS," the same way they identify their EVDO network, we were indeed testing on the WiMAX network:

When we moved closer to downtown, things looked a little better (click to view full size):

And finally, a traceroute, also to Google (click to view full size):
Just to contrast, here is a traceroute from the same location using EVDO Rev A (click to view full size):

The service in Dallas/Fort Worth may not be as impressive as we found it in Chicago, but confirming that it does work at "high speeds" is a good start. As for the inability to stay connected, that is a disappointment. We will continue running tests and hopefully in the near future - especially when it is "officially" launched in early 2009.
