Dell Lightning Windows 7 Phone May Support LTE

LTEDell announced several months ago that they were working on creating both an Android-based smartphone and another that will run on Windows Phone 7 OS. Today some information was leaked about the Windows Phone 7 device that Dell is reportedly calling the Dell Lightning.

According to several websites including Engadget, the Dell Lightning will get an upgrade in Q4 2011 that will allow it to use 4G LTE networks for faster internet access. Right out of the box it will only be able to use either AT&T or T-Mobile's 3G network. The Lightning will supposedly use a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, it will have an 4.1 inch OLED display similar to Google's Nexus One. OLED screens provide higher resolutions than the LCD screens that phones like the iPhone use.

It is also rumored that there will be full flash support for Windows 7 Phones like the Dell Lightning, but flash support won't be available when the device initially launches. Support for flash will be added at a later date via software upgrade.

Keep in mind that this hasn't been confirmed by Dell officially, but here are the reported specs:

  • 1Ghz QSD8250 Snapdragon processor
  • WVGA 4.1-inch OLED display
  • 5mp auto focus camera
  • 1GB of flash with 512MB RAM plus 8GB of storage on a MicroSD card
  • Accelerometer
  • GPS
  • Compass
  • FM Radio
