One thing that many 3G users have always wanted is a device that they could use with two broadband services, like a modem you could use for either EVDO or a CDMA-based service. We haven't seen anything like that for 3G from any major carriers, but when 4G comes to be we might have access to devices that are compatible with both WiMAX (which will be coming out first) and LTE (due sometime over the next few years). Intel and Ericson have already begun creating chips that could be used in anything from laptops to cameras and would allow consumers to purchase one device and then make the choice of which service they wanted to sign up with, or possibly even use for both depending on which service area you were in (assuming you were signed up for service with both a WiMAX and LTE provider). This is a big move that could make a huge impact on our choices and options as consumers, and we are looking forward to hearing more about how these devices will operate!
