Things have really been heating up lately as Verizon races to launch their LTE network by the end of 2010. Like 3G, 4G appears to be a very appealing solution for certain oil companies that span from western Texas through southeastern New Mexico. The drilling within these 25 counties typically happens outside of city limits where 3G cellular towers are available. This forces these business to use other point-to-point wireless systems to have access to send and receive important data. Texas Energy Network will be conducting tests throughout next week to determine if 4G could be a solution to their problem. They'll be testing reliability on both the send and receive and will determine if it can meet their needs. If the tests go well, this could be a step in seeing LTE gain focus in rural markets that are forgotten by current ISP's. With estimates of 5-12Mbps down and 2-5Mbps up, DSL's days may be numbered as a solution for applications where cable isn't feasible.
