Picture taken from Verizon LTE demo in Boston, MA
According to Intomobile, there has been a sighting of a LTE 4G beta device from Verizon. These claims had originated from a forum post on DSLreports which indicated that the device was clocked at over 27Mbps down and 5Mbps up. These speeds are much higher than the claim of 5-12Mbps down and 2-5Mbps that Verizon has originally stated. However, they are about on par theoretically with what LTE can deliver - assuming nobody else is using the service. This would make sense considering this is a closed beta test from a location in Pennsylvania.
Before you get too excited, it's important to note that we aren't sure if this actually is an LTE device or something else completely. If you compare the picture from the ACTUAL Verizon demonstration to the pictures of the claimed LTE device (below), they have no real similarities. It's possible that Verizon has altered the design for mainstream testing or the actual box isn't shown in the above picture. We do know Verizon plans on launching LTE to 30 markets located in Superbowl cities by the end of 2010, so if they is any truth to these pictures, hopefully Verizon will come forward and give us a more detailed glimpse into their LTE equipment.
