LTE may not be available in the USA for a few years, but tests have confirmed that it does indeed work in a psuedo- real world environment. T-Mobile and Nortel ran a test in Bonn, Germany in a vehicle moving at about 67kph (approximately 41mph), where they drove around in the range of three separate cell sites, and it was a success. They were not only able to stay connected seamlessly between the three towers, but were able to peak at 170 Mbit/s for downloads and up to 50 Mbit/s for uploads, a full three times faster than the current wireless broadband network available in the area.
We look forward to similar tests in the US!
