MetroPCS Has Launced The First 4G LTE Network And LTE Capable Phone

Last month we wrote about MetroPCS plans to offer a 4G LTE network before Verizon, as well as their plan to have exclusive phones. On September 21st they became the first carrier to offer the world's first public 4G network! They're offering a service plan that includes talk, text and 4G internet access for as little as $55/mo. This could be an excellent option for users that live in the Las Vegas area, however, this service won't be nearly as extensive as Sprint and CLEAR's 4G network. Their first LTE handset is the Samsung Craft which will be priced at $299 after an instant $50 rebate. This device will feature the following specs:

  • 3.3 inch AMOLED (Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) Screen
  • A 2GB microSD card preloaded with Paramount Pictures’ hit movie “Star Trek.
  • Full QWERTY keyboard and Samsungs "TouchWiz" on screen keyboard
  • 3.2MP camera with video recording
  • WiFi

Even though MetroPCS was the first to 4G access they're still 52 markets behind Sprint and CLEAR. Verizon also plans to offer LTE in 30 NFL cities by the end of 2010. However, if you're a user in the Vegas area that doesn't travel, MetroPCS may be an attractive option to get the world's first 4G LTE network.
