Motorola Wins Stimulus For LTE Public Safety Network

Last month we reported that San Francisco would have access to 4G LTE for Emergency Authorities. In the latest stimulus grants, Motorola received an award for $50.6 million to build the emergency network operating on the 700Mhz frequency band. This network will cover San Francisco, Alameda County/Oakland, Contra Costa County, cities of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. Motorola plans to start building the network through 2010 and hopefully go live in 2011. This wasn't originally designed for consumer use, however, after receiving this grant they plan to make this available to residential and business customers.
