Verizon Accounts for 60% of Global LTE Subscribers

Verizon 4G LTE service is currently available in over 170 markets and currently has 3.1 million LTE subscribers, which accounts for 60% of the worldwide total, according to TeleGeography. Compared to the roll out of 3G networks in 2004 the U.S. only had 175,000 3G subscribers accounting for less than 1% of the global total. AT&T is also now contributing towards our global total with approximately 15 markets with 4G LTE available. TeleGeography doesn't expect the U.S. to maintain the LTE for long indicating "While the U.S. has taken an early lead, the bulk of the growth of the next five years will come in Asia, which we project will account for almost half of LTE subscribers in 2016," said TeleGeography analyst John Dinsdale. In the next five years the U.S. 4G LTE subscriber number should grow to more than 400 million users.
