After AT&T's official LTE announcement, Verizon director of network technology Praveen Atreya mentioned LTE-Advanced, which will be the next revision of wireless technology. According to Atreya it's still to early to test the new tech, so you won't be seeing this technology in the near future. When this technology does become available users will see their speeds jump up to the 1Gbps range, which is almost 67 times faster than the high end of the average 4G rating on Verizon's standard 4G LTE network.
