Verizon To Launch LTE 4G Markets in Q4 2010

Verizon Wireless LTE 4G

Since Verizon Wireless announced that they would be using LTE technology for their 4G network back in 2008, they have been claiming that their superior 4G network would be launching in the near future. While we were expecting Verizon to publicly launch their 4G network in 2009, they had only started to perform closed LTE trials in Boston and Seattle.

Recently Verizon announced that they would publicly launch 4G by the end of 2010, but didn't provide any specific details on exactly when or which markets would be the first to have Verizon 4G.

"In the fourth quarter, we'll be turning on [commercial] markets as planned,"  Verizon Communications CTO Richard Lynch told Sidecut Reports. Verizon also plans to have several user trials this summer before making the service available to the general public. They also indicated that they plan to launch 25-30 commercial markets by the end of this year. Sprint/CLEAR's WiMax 4G network  has had a big head start on 4G network coverage for awhile now, as they currently cover 27 markets and plan to introduce more this year. It's interesting to see that by the end of the year Verizon claims they will cover as many markets as WiMax currently covers. Looks like LTE will be catching up in the 4G race very quickly! Stay tuned to 4Ginfo.com for more updates on LTE!
