Verizon Wireless Planning to Provide LTE in Alaska

If all goes well for Verizon, residents of Alaska will finally have an option for service that doesn't involve some type of partner roaming agreement. They've filed an application with the FCC to purchase a block of wireless spectrum from Triad. Fierce Wireless says that Verizon is interested in buying the 700MHz C block spectrum license. Triad originally paid $1.8 Million for the spectrum in 2008 and if Verizon completes the deal, residents can expect full availability of Verizon services in the future. This is pretty significant news for residents as Verizon currently doesn't offer any 3G network. Due to the lower frequency band that LTE uses, they should be able to coverage large area's which could be beneficial to underserved areas throughout the state.
